Child Find
For parents of children residing within the Fountain-Fort Carson School District, we have a process that assists in the assessment and determination of the special needs of children birth through five years of age. If you have concerns regarding a child's development, and the child is between the ages of three and five, you may contact the Child Find office at (719) 304-3550. If a child is determined to have special needs, connections with community resources will be made available. For children under the age of three, you may also contact The Resource Exchange at (719) 380-1100 for information pertaining to developmental concerns.
Early Intervention services are available for children living within Fountain-Fort Carson School District boundaries only. Children, ages three to five, that have been determined to have an educational disability may be eligible for early intervention and related services based on each individual child's needs. The classes are held Tuesday through Friday for 3 hours a day in morning or afternoon sessions. Children that reach the age of five (5), on or before October 1, will need to enroll in kindergarten and receive evaluation and supports through their home school.
Please note that there are no exceptions to our early intervention out of district policy. Those students, who move out of District Eight boundaries during the course of the school year, are required to be dis-enrolled and the family may opt for the child to attend the preschool/Early Intervention Program in their district of residence. This policy is in place to ensure that the needs of preschoolers within our growing district are accommodated.
Children that are already approved for preschool (have received their confirmation letter congratulating them for acceptance into the preschool program) will need to have their child's doctor fill out and sign this Preschool Physical Form prior to registering for preschool.
For parents interested in other options for their child, please see the attached information for Headstart offered through Community Partnership for Child Development.
